The longest Total Lunar Eclipse of the Century

Luna Eclipse July 2018 -Perm.png

The longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century takes place this Friday, July 27. The total phase of the eclipse of July 27 will last 1 hour and 43 minutes, during which the Moon will turn red or ruddy-brown color. From start to finish, including partial eclipse phase, the phenomenon will last nearly 3 hour and 55 minutes.

Mars during the eclipse will be very close to the Moon and it will be visible just below the nocturnal luminary.

The Moon and Mars and their vis luminis during the eclipse

The eclipse will occur in the sign of Aquarius and in the constellation of Capricorn. Since Mars is in bodily conjunction with the Moon and it will be visible, it will be the lord of the eclipse. Moreover as the Moon is applying to Jupiter during the eclipse, Jupiter will partecipate in ruling  over the eclipse to some extent.

As we can see from the visibility map the Moon will be during the eclipse maximum at the meridian for places on the red line as in the Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman and in many places in the European Russia.

Since the lunar eclipse will last for 3 hours and 55 minute and in those places it will occur at the MC, the effects will last for 4 months and will start six months after the eclipse, therefore the effects should be show up between the end of Dicember 2018 and the end of April 2019. The effects will be mostly evident around the beginning of March 2019.

Mars rules the eclipse as we have already said and therefore, according to Ptolemy:

Mars, when he assumes the rulership alone, is in general the cause of destruction through dryness and in particular, when the event concerns men, brings about wars, civil faction, capture, enslavement, uprisings, the wrath of leaders, and sudden deaths arising from such causes; moreover, fevers, tertian agues, raising of blood, swift and violent deaths, especially in the prime of life; similarly, violence, assaults, lawlessness, arson and murder, robbery and piracy. With regard to the condition of the air he causes hot weather, warm, pestilential, and withering winds, the loosing of lightning and hurricanes, and drought. Again, at sea he causes sudden shipwreck of fleets through changeable winds or lightning or the like; the failure of the water of rivers, the drying up of springs, and the tainting of potable waters. With reference to the necessities produced upon the earth for human use, he causes a scarcity and loss of dumb animals and of things which grow from the earth, and the loss of crops by drying as the result of hot weather, or by locusts, or by the beating of the winds, or by burning in places of storage.

Moreover, since the lunar eclipse will be in solid sign, such as Aquarius, the effect will concern the foundations and buildings; and since it will occur in a constellation pertaining to the sea, such as Capricorn, they influence the creatures of the sea and the sailing of fleets. Also being the eclipse close to the MC for the considered regions the predicted event will concern the kings, leaders and the religion.

Let’s look at some charts for places on the red line where the lunar eclipse will have the max intensity and duration.

According to ptolemaic astrological corography, since the lunar eclipse will occur in Aquarius, the regions effected by the eclipse will be BieloRussia and South West part of Russia, Kazakistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, which are under the rulership of Aquarius. So we will at first consider the charts for two city on the red line in the regions priviosly listed.

Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

Luna Eclipse July 2018 -Perm.png

Perm’ – Russia

In both charts we see that Jupiter is quite weak, being cadent in the VI house. So Mars is tthe real ruler of the eclipse for those places.

Let’s look to some other charts in the Persina Gulf and outside the region which is ruled by Aquarius according to Ptolemy.

Dubai – United Arab Emirates

Lunar Eclipse July 2018 -Bandar-e Abbas.png

Bandar-e ‘Abbas – Iran

In those charts Jupiter is on the occidental angle and this can be helpuful. Anyway those cities are in the region of the Strait of Hormuz. Recently Iran again made threats to close the strait as a retaliation against the USA after the U.S withdrew from the JCPOA deal earlier in the year and threatened sanctions on the persian oil export. Since about 20% of the world’s petroleum (about 35% of the petroleum traded by sea) passes through the strait, this eclipse can be a sign that the situazion in that area can get worse.
