The Ecuador earthquake

On April 16, 2016 at 18:58 ECT, an earthquake occurred in Ecuador. The earthquake epicenter was located  approximately 27 km from the towns of Muisne and Pedernales in a sparsely populated part of the country and 170 km from the capital Quito. The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8. Widespread damage was caused, with structures hundreds of kilometres from the epicenter collapsing. At least 587 people were killed and at least 8,340 others were injured in the earthquake. It was the worst natural disaster to hit Ecuador since the 1949 Ambato earthquake.

The earthquake chart

Earthquake Ecuador 2016.png

The Moon is moving away from the Sun and applying to Mars, Lord of the Horoscope in Scorpio. Moreover the Moon is aspected in mundo by a dexter square of Mars. Altair, star of nature of Mars and Jupiter is rising. The benefics are debilitated and so they are not helpful: Venus cadent in exile in Aries; Jupiter in exile in Virgo. The malefics are conjuncted in Sagittarius and they square in mundo the Lot of Fortune. The Lot of Fortune is opposed by her lord Jupiter. Mars is stationary with Antares, the violent star in the heart of Scorpio.

The preceding syzygy

Earthquake Syzygy.png

The Luminaries are in Aries in the bound of Mercury at the horoscope, expected by a trine of Saturn and Mars. Saturn trines the Luminaries also in mundo. Mercury is doing the heliacal evening rising in the first house. The Moon is applying to Mars.So we can say that both Mars and Mercury  have the rulership over the syzygy. Mars is with Antares. Mars and Saturn are in a very close parallel of declination. Let’s note that the benefics are cadent and in exile.

The root cause: the Lunar eclipse on 27 September 2015

Lunar Eclipse Ecuador.png

The lunar eclipse occurred on 27th of September 2015 was visible from Ecuador. The eclipse started at 20.07 and ended at 23.27. Therefore the effect should have lasted for 3 month and 10 days. Since the syzygy occurred in the XI place the effects will start in the first fours month after the eclipse. We can estimate that the effects have to start after about four month after the eclipse, that is at the end of January 2016, as the Moon is almost on the cusp of the XI house. So the effect were to be expected between February 2016 and the middle of April. The intensification of the effect should have been around the end of February.

The earthquake didn’t occur around the end of February but definitely occurred in the temporal window influenced by the eclipse according to the Ptolemaic doctrine.

From the lunar eclipse chart we see that the Moon is separating from Saturn which is on the occidental horizon. Saturn has no dignity over the Moon place but has dignity over the preceding angle that is the MC in Aquarius.  So we can conclude that Saturn is the ruler of the eclipse in Ecuador. Let’s note that Mars is at the IC and aspects Saturn by a dexter square, that is, making an epidekateia on Saturn. This very powerful aspect is even more effective since it occurred over the angles.

Let’s note that the Pleiades are rising on the eastern horizon. Ptolemy says:

The sign of Taurus as a whole is indicative of both temperatures and is somewhat hot; but taken part by part, its leading portion, particularly near the Pleiades, is marked by earthquakes, winds, and mists

About the moment when the event could probably occur, Ptolemy says:

The beginnings of the particular abatements and intensifications of the event we deduced from the conjunctions which take place in the meantime, if they occur in the significant regions or the regions in some aspect to them, and also from the other movements of the planets, if those that effect the predicted event are either rising or setting or stationary or at evening rising, and are at the same time in some aspect to the zodiacal signs that hold the cause; for planets when they are rising or stationary produce intensifications in the events, but when setting, and under the rays of the sun, or advancing at evening, they bring about an abatement.

As we can see from the chart for the Ecuador Earthquake at that moment Mars was making its first station.

Mars station.png

If instead we look at the syzygy preceding the event we find that Mars trines the place of the Moon in the lunar eclipse. Let’s take a look to the preventive lunation before the earth quake. We see that the Sun is over the Moon place during the eclipse and Mars is exactly aspecting the Moon of the eclipse.

Further considerations

I have already written an article about that lunar eclipse: God save the Queen. In that article I supposed that the eclipse should effect the UK and London since, according to Ptolemaic astrological geography, the northern Europe is under the influence of Aries where the Moon was during the eclipse. Verily almost the same astrological configuration occurred for Paris but I preferred London because during the eclipse Mars was in conjunction with the star Regulus, the ‘little king’ and UK is a monarchy unlike France. Those articles show how difficult is to predict events especially concerning where they will go to happen. Obviously Ecuador is not mentioned by Ptolemy in his astrological geography and so we don’t know which sign belong to, even if some conjectures could be done.  Moreover an eclipse can be a sign of multiple events in different parts of earth. The effect of that eclipse in UK (or France) should be expected later, about the next July and August. In order to verify if some effects will show up in UK we have to wait few more months. We have already seen that Cameron, the prime minister, was questioned  and weakened because of the recent scandal about the Panama Papers. In the next months UK will face important events as the EU referendum and the Queen’s birthday celebrations.

God save the Queen

The pale-faced moon looks bloody on the earth
And lean-look’d prophets whisper fearful change –

Richard II by Shakespeare

The Moon eclipse occurred during the night of the 28 September 2015 was visible in America, Europe and Asia. The Moon appeared larger in the sky because she was full at the perigee, that is the point of her orbit closer to the Earth.  The spectacular view of the blood red Moon, a rare event, burned across the European skies.

Mars rising

Since the Moon was in Aries during the eclipse, according to Ptolemy, the event will happen in the north-west part of Europe, that is, the northern France, England and Germany. At the maximum of the obscuration of the Moon in London Mars was rising.

Moon Eclipse 2015 London

In London the eclipse started at 1:11 am and lasted for 5 hours and 11 minutes till 6:22 am. Because the Moon was close to the western horizon the effect of the syzygy will begin in the last third quadrimester from the time of the eclipse. So the event will start in the second half of May 2016, will last for five months and will be more intense during the last 2 months, around July-August 2016.

Since the Moon was in the first degrees of Aries and Mars, triplicity ruler of the descendent, was rising at the eastern horizon then Mars is the Lord of the syzygy. Ptolemy says:

Mars, when he assumes the rulership alone, is in general the cause of destruction through dryness and in particular, when the event concerns men, brings about wars, civil faction, capture, enslavement, uprisings, the wrath of leaders, and sudden deaths arising from such causes; moreover, fevers, tertian agues, raising of blood, swift and violent deaths, especially in the prime of life; similarly, violence, assaults, lawlessness, arson and murder, robbery and piracy. With regard to the condition of the air he causes hot weather, warm, pestilential, and withering winds, the loosing of lightning and hurricanes, and drought. Again, at sea he causes sudden shipwreck of fleets through changeable winds or lightning or the like; the failure of the water of rivers, the drying up of springs, and the tainting of potable waters. With reference to the necessities produced upon the earth for human use, he causes a scarcity and loss of dumb animals and of things which grow from the earth, and the loss of crops by drying as the result of hot weather, or by locusts, or by the beating of the winds, or by burning in places of storage.

As the Moon is in the constellation of Pisces the event can concern rivers and fluvial navigation. In that case the lordship of Mars signifies the scarcity of water and the poisoning of rivers and potable water.
Moreover the eclipse in an equinoctial sign, as Libra, may also concern the religion and the worship.
As Mars is occidental to the Moon and the Moon is totally eclipsed the event will be considerable.

Let’s note that Saturn from the IV place is squaring Mars. Furthermore Mars is in conjunction with the star Regulus at the horoscope. Regulus, of nature of Mars and Jupiter, meaning Little King and also being called Royal Star can suggest that a eminent person or a sovereign will die, fall or resign. The rising Mars though stresses a violent and sudden change.

Elsbeth Ebertin, a renewed German astrologer lived in the first half of the XX century and   became famous for a prediction about Adolf Hitler and for having predicted the year and the circumstances of her death which occurred by an allies air raid on Germany. Elsbeth Ebertin studied historical events with the planetary configurations in each case and came to the following conclusion, in her book “Fixed stars and their interpretations”:

when Mars or Saturn are in conjunction with Regulus, especially exciting events are always recorded e.g. assassinations, coup d’états, revolutions, revolts, demonstrations, overthrow of heads of state and similar events.

Concerning the people effected by the eclipse, Ptolemy says:

Usually, however, those men are affected by the more universal ills who in their own genitures happen to have the most essential places, by which I mean those of the luminaries or of the angles, the same as those that furnish the cause of the general misfortunes, that is, the places of the eclipses or the places directly opposite. Of these the positions most dangerous and hardest to avoid are those in which either of the luminaries is in possession of the very degree of the place of the eclipse, or the degree opposite.

The little king

Let’s look at the geniture of David Cameron.

David Cameron

In his nativity the horoscope-descendent axis is very close to the eclipse axis. In fact the Moon is almost in conjunction with the horoscope of Cameron. Moreover in Cameron’s geniture the star Regulus is in conjunction with Mars. Also Venus, the Lord of the horoscope, in Libra is close to the Moon position during the eclipse.

During the incoming months Cameron will probably face difficult times, though no life-threatening event should occurred since there isn’t any evidence in primary directions.

The longest reigning Queen

Queen Elizabeth II

In the geniture of Queen Elizabeth II we don’t find nor the luminaries nor the angle in conjunction with the luminaries in the eclipse. We note only that the Sun in the eclipse is in conjunction with Mercury in the nativity.

Around her next birthday, though, Mars of direction will arrive at the MC in conjunction with Saturn of nativity, making a square to the horoscope. Moreover in her next Solar Return the Moon will be the degree of the Moon of the eclipse and the Moon will be applying to the square of Mars and Saturn in mundo. Those signs could be heralds of the end of her reign.

The darkened equinox

The next 20th of March, just before the vernal equinox, a solar eclipse will be visible in the northern hemisphere from Europe, Eastern Asia and North Africa.

The total solar eclipse will occur across the far Northern regions of Europe and the Arctic and will be visible from the the Faroe Islands and Svalbard. The longest duration of totality for this eclipse will be 2 minutes and 46 seconds as viewed off the coast of the Faroe Islands. This will be the last total solar eclipse in Europe for over a decade. The next not being until August 12, 2026.

In the rest of Europe will be visible a partial eclipse casting a darker shadow over regions closer to eclipse path.Eclipse path 20th March 2015

Let’s look at the chart of this solar eclipse.

Since either Faroe Island or Svalbard are too close to the North Pole, being beyond the 60° parallel it’s not possible to cast an horoscope for that localities since the movement of ecliptic across the eastern horizon is not regular and so the Placidian horary house system, that I use, can not be used.

So let’s cast the horoscope for a place close to the eclipse northern path but still with latitude inferior to 60° parallel. Inverness in Scotland, UK will be suitable. This horoscope will be useful to inspect the eclipse general meaning.Solar Eclipse 2015 Inverness

The syzygy of the luminaries will occur at the 29° of Pisces. Since Cauda, the South Node, is at 11° of Aries we should expect the eclipse to take place in Aries. In this case Cauda, being at the beginning of Aries, and solar lunar conjunction in the last degree of Pisces are close enough to originate a partial solar eclipse. This event is quite rare.

Let’s try to find the lordship over this eclipse. Ptolemy in his Quadripartitum, Chapter 7 ‘Of the Class of those Affected’ paragraph, says

The third heading is that of generic classification, whereby one must determine what classes the event will affect. This is ascertained from the special nature and form of the zodiacal signs in which happen to be the places of the eclipses and in which are the heavenly bodies, planets and fixed stars alike, that govern both the sign of the eclipse and that of the angle preceding the eclipse. In the case of the planets we discover the rulership of these regions thus: The one which has the greatest number of relationships to both the regions aforesaid, that of the eclipse and that of the angle which follows it, both by virtue of the nearest visible applications or recessions, by those of the aspects which bear a relation, and furthermore by rulership of the houses, triangles, exaltations, and terms, that planet alone will hold the dominance. However, if the same planet is not found to be both lord of the eclipse and of the angle, we must take together the two which have the greatest number of familiarities, as aforesaid, to either one of the regions, giving preference to the lord of the eclipse. And if several rivals be found on either count, we shall prefer for the domination the one which is closest to an angle, or is more significant, or is more closely allied by sect. In the case of the fixed stars, we shall take the first one of the brilliant stars which signifies upon the preceding angle at the actual time of the eclipse, according to the nine kinds of visible aspects defined in our first compilation, and the star which of the group visible at the time of the eclipse has either risen or reached meridian with the angle following the place of the eclipse.

In trying to figure out the ruler of the eclipse we cannot take into account the angle following the eclipse, which is for the majority of places across Europe the upper pivot, because it changes from place to place. We will consider its influence in particular charts which will be studied later.

As we see from the  Planetary Dignities Table below, Jupiter, Venus, Mars and Saturn have dignity over the syzygy’s place.

Eclipse 2015 Dignities Table

The Moon, after the conjunction with the Sun, will be applying to Saturn with a trine. Saturn is in    Sagittarius and receive the Moon which is in the term of Saturn. The Sun in also in trine with Saturn.  Moreover the Sun is in mutual reception with  Jupiter which is at the edge of the Sun vis luminis. Jupiter is also in in trine with Saturn and its lord too. Both Saturn and Jupiter are retrograde.

Due to the liminal characteristic of this eclipse, during the sun obscuration, which last more than two hour from start to end for most of the places in Europe, the Moon will move to the sign of Aries. The Moon will be so in the term of Jupiter, in the domicile of Mars.

So we can conclude that Saturn is the lord of the eclipse with the aid of Jupiter and participation of Mars.

Says Ptolemy:

Saturn, when he gains sole dominance, is in general the cause of destruction by cold, and in particular, when the event concerns men, causes long illnesses, consumptions, withering, disturbances caused by fluids, rheumatisms, and quartan fevers, exile, poverty, imprisonment, mourning, fears, and deaths, especially among those advanced in age.He is usually significant with regard to those dumb animals that are of use to man, and brings about scarcity of them, and the bodily destruction by disease of such as exist, so that the men who use them are similarly affected and perish. With regard to weather, he causes fearful cold, freezing, misty, and pestilential; corruption of the air, clouds, and gloom; furthermore, multitudes of snowstorms, not beneficial but destructive, from which are produced the reptiles harmful to man. As for the rivers and seas, in general he causes storms, the wreck of fleets, disastrous voyages, and the scarcity and death of fish, and in particular the high and ebb tides of the seas and in rivers excessive floods and pollution of their waters. As for the crops of the earth, he brings about want, scarcity, and loss, especially of those grown for necessary uses, either through worms or locusts or floods or cloud-burst or hail or the like, so that famine and the destruction of men thereby result.

Here the rulership is not of Saturn alone. Jupiter bring a soothing effect and the incoming influence of Mars let us think of a more violent and sudden tone toward the end of eclipse influence.

We can forecast something like an ongoing economic recession concerning European countries especially the northern ones ending with demonstrations and social conflicts or a enduring cold weather condition that will be fatal to European agriculture or a flood which will threat man and animals.

Moreover, being the eclipse in the constellation of Pisces:

In the constellations pertaining to rivers, such as Aquarius and Pisces, they concern the rivers and springs;

in bicorporeal sign

eclipse has significance for men and kings;

in signs near the mid‑heaven above the earth

concerning sacred rites and kings.

So fluvial floods or epidemic disease or imprisonment or death of political leaders can be possible outcomes.

About the extent of the effects, Ptolemy say:

To the question, how large a portion of the class involved will the event affect, the answer is supplied by the extent of the obscuration of the eclipses, and by the positions relative to the place of the eclipse held by the stars which furnish the cause. For when they are occidental to solar eclipses, or oriental to lunar, they usually affect a minority; in opposition, a half; and the majority, if they are oriental to solar eclipses or occidental to lunar.

Since Saturn is oriental, moving toward the opposition to the Sun the effects will involved more than half especially in the northern parts.

Now let’s consider the places which will be affected by the eclipse. We have to consider two element:

  1. The places of maximum obscuration
  2. The place ruled by the element trine of the zodiac sign in which the eclipse occured

The places of maximum obscuration are located in the far northern Europe, while the part of earth under the rulership  of watery triangle and Pisces, according to Ptolemy, are North of Africa, in particular Libya and the Anatolian Peninsula in particular Turkey. In those regions eclipse will be quite weak though.
Taking in account that the Moon will pass in Aries during the eclipse we can think that countries under the rulership of Aries will be also affected. The northern Europe from France and UK through Germany till Ukraine are under the rulership of Aries.

Concerning the “Time of the Predicted Events” Ptolemy says:

Inasmuch as the eclipses which take place at the same time are not completed in the same number of ordinary hours in every locality, and since the same solar eclipses do not everywhere have the same degree of obscuration or the same time of duration, we shall first set down for the hour of the eclipse, in each of the related localities, and for the altitude of the pole, centres, as in a nativity; secondly, how many equinoctial hours the obscuration of the eclipse lasts in each. For when these data are examined, if it is a solar eclipse, we shall understand that the predicted event lasts as many years as the equinoctial hours which we discover, and if a lunar eclipse, as many months. The nature of the beginnings and of the more important intensifications of the events, however, are deduced from the position of the place of the eclipse relative to the centres. For if the place of the eclipse falls on the eastern horizon, this signifies that the beginning of the predicted event is in the first period of four months from the time of the eclipse and that its important intensifications lies in the first third of the entire period of its duration; if on the mid‑heaven, in the second four months and the middle third; if upon the western horizon, in the third four months and the final third.

Since the average duration of the phenomenon is about 2 hours and half and eclipse falls close to the mid-heaven, the events will lasts for two year and half and will start around the first months of summer 2015 and will last till the end of 2017. The effects will be more intense between June 2016 and March 2017.

Lastly Cardan says (aphorism 34, Section 7 in ‘Aphorismorum astrologicorum segmenta septem’):

If there will be eclipse or comets in earth signs announces famine because of drought; if in watery signs, famine and scourges by heavy rains; if in airy signs, winds and uprisings; if in fire signs, wars

Since this eclipse is also the syzygy before the equinox, the beginning of Spring season, it is significative of the general temper of incoming Spring. Here the lacking of light due to the solar eclipse signifies a cold season. Since Saturn trines Jupiter we can expected a cold and rainy Spring. Saturn is mainly dry and Jupiter is hot and wet because they are retrograde. Since they are both in fire signs and Jupiter is Lord of Saturn, the effect is milder and the season will not be cold but changeable. Saturn also trines Mercury so there will be also dry winds.

A deadly joke

imageHumor can only exist where people still distinguish the line between what is important and what is not. And this border today is no longer distinguished. The Immortality, Milan Kundera

On 7 January 2015, two Islamist men raided into the Paris headquarters of Charlie Hebdo and opened fire, killing twelve men and wounding eleven. The aim of the terrorist was to avenge the offence to the Islamic religion and to the prophet Mohammed supposedly perpetrated by the journalists and editor of Charlie Hebdo  for the appearance on the magazine of controversial Mohammed cartoons. The weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo was published every Wedneday since 1970 featuring cartoons, reports, polemics, and jokes. Since its beginning it has been very famous  for  its irreverent and provoking satire involving religions and public personalities expecially politicians.

The attack took place around the 11,30 in the morning.

The horoscope is in Pisces and its lord, Jupiter, is retrograde, cadent in the VI house. The Moon in Leo  is moving from the opposition to Venus and Mercury, conjunct in Aquarius, to the conjunction with Jupiter and then opposing Mars at the end of Aquarius. So Moon is translating the light from Jupiter to Mars perfecting the aspect between them.  In addition the Moon is perfectly opposing Mercury in mondo, stressing Mercury, natural significator of press and journalists (here significantly with Venus as Charlie Hebdo also features cartoons).  Mercury is also the Lord of the III place so it’s also accidental significator of press. In addition Mercury and Venus are strictly aspected by a sinister square in mundo, a configuration called Decimation or Epidekateia, that is, when a planet is posited in the 10th house away from another one. The upper planet takes dominion over the lower one. Here Saturn takes the dominion and squares Mercury and Venus from the VIII place close to the cusp of the IX place and in conjunction with stars of violent nature: Graffias, of Mars-Saturn nature, and Antares, of Mars-Jupiter nature. So  the terrible judgment and punishment comes from Saturn the executioner. Since Mars is the Lord of the VIII house  and is in the XII house it’s a proper sign of a danger of death coming from hidden enemies.

Charlie Hebdo shooting

Let’s look now at the chart for the lunar eclipse on the 15 April 2014. The lunar eclipse was visible  from Paris just before sunrise. The eclipse started around 4:53 GMT and ended at 5:03 GMT.

Paris Lunar Eclipse 2014 Start Chart

Paris 15 April 2014. Lunar Eclipse begins

Paris Luna Eclipse 2014 End

Paris 15 Aprile 2014. Lunar Eclipse Ends. Moon setting.

Since the Moon was setting at the occident when the lunar eclipse was visible from Paris, according to Ptolemy, the effect of the lunar eclipse will start in the last third of one year from the eclipse date, that is, around the 15th of December 2014 till the 15th April 2015. Then the effect will last for no more than the same amount in months of the duration of the eclipse in hours. Since the eclipse was visible only for 10 minutes its effect will last for 5 days. So the Charlie Hebdo attempt happened inside the influx window opened by the lunar eclipse of 15 April 2014.

The lordship over the eclipse has to be found from the Moon and  the occident. Since Venus and Saturn are in aversion with the Moon and the occident we have to discard them even if both the significator have dignities over them. As Mars is conjunct both with Moon and the occident we can regard Mars as the lord of the eclipse with the participation of Mercury with Sun at the oriental horizon.

Moon and Mars conjuncted with their vis luminis

Moon and Mars conjuncted with their vis luminis

Ptolemy says about those lords:

Mars, when he assumes the rulership alone, is in general the cause of destruction through dryness and in particular, when the event concerns men, brings about wars, civil faction, capture, enslavement, uprisings, the wrath of leaders, and sudden deaths arising from such causes; moreover, fevers, tertian agues, raising of blood, swift and violent deaths, especially in the prime of life; similarly, violence, assaults, lawlessness, arson and murder, robbery and piracy.

Mercury, if he gains the rulership, is, generally speaking, in nature like whatever of the other planets may be associated with him. In particular, he is above all stimulating, and in predictions concerning men is keen and very practical, ingenious in any situation; but he causes robbery, theft, piracy, and assault, and furthermore, brings about unsuccessful voyaging when he is in aspect with the maleficent planets, and occasions diseases of dryness, quotidian agues, coughs, raising, and consumption. He is the cause of events taking place which concern the priestly code, the worship of the gods, the royal revenues, and of changes in customs and laws, from time to time, in consistency with his association with the other planets on each occasion.

So the lordship of Mars Mercury is appropriated because of the violent death and the involvement of religion and of changes in customs and laws.

And says Ptolemy:

Constellations of human form, both in the zodiac and among the fixed stars, cause the event to concern the human race.

The Moon was in the sign of Libra e with Spica in the constellation of Virgo, both anthropomorphic so the event will concern human beings.

Let’s look closely at the chat of the end of eclipse when the Moon is setting at the occident with Mars.  We see that Jupiter is located at the subterranean pivot with star Sirius of Mars-Jupiter nature. Jupiter is Lord both of the VIII and XII places and it’s squared by Moon and Mars at the occident and Sun and Mercury at the horoscope.

Below the picture shows Mercury and the star Vega and Spica lines over Paris at the time of beginning of lunar eclipse.

Let’s look now at the syzygy before the Charlie Hebdo shooting. Jupiter, the Lord of horoscope is on the cusp of the IX place, connected with religions and ideologies, and it is opposed by Mars on the cusp of the III house, related to press and communication. Here Mars the lord of the eclipse, that we have already examined, is opposing Jupiter, lord of the horoscope. Moreover in this chart Mars is the lord of the XII house, significator of hidden enemies. It’s also noteworthy that Aldebaran, star of violent nature, is setting at the occident.

“When beggars die there are no comets in the sky. The heavens only announce the deaths of princes”  Julius Caesar – Shakespeare

The green comet  C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is now visible by naked eye in the northern hemisphere. It was discovered by Australian comet-hunter Terry Lovejoy in the last August.

Comets tend to brighten as they draw nearer the sun that binds them in orbit. Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy  over the past months, has been getting brighter at it heads toward its January 30 perihelion or closest point to the sun. The comet’s coma (or atmosphere surrounding the comet’s icy nucleus) has grown as the comet has neared the sun. Moreover Comet Lovejoy was closest to Earth on January 7, 2015 so that date marked the beginning of the best time to see the comet. The comet will reach the peak of brightness at magnitude 4.2 on 11 Jan 2015.

Stars and heavenly bodies are visible by naked eye if they have magnitude less than 7. As we can see here for the observation point placed in Rome the comet became visible from naked eye from the second half of last month:Comet Ephemeris

The comet will cross the ecliptic around the half of January in the constellation of Taurus and Aries.

Cometa C2014 Q2 LovejoyC

Cardano in his commentaries to the Ptolemaic Quadripartitum reports an example of a comet chart from the astrologer Haly. The chosen time for its erection was the time of the new Moon after the first visibility of the comet. We know that syzygy are crucial moment for forecasting the climate of a period till the following syzygy and that they were used very much in world astrology. In studying a comet the new moon was chosen by Haly because in absence of Moon light the comet would have been more bright and visible.

So let’s draw our comet chart for the new moon after the time of its greater brightness. The new moon will be on 20th Jun 2015. As we have already seen from the ephemeris the comet will cross the constellations of Taurus and Aries. So the comet will be in the sign of Taurus.

Ptolemy says about the comets:

We must observe, further, for the prediction of general conditions, the comets which appear either at the time of the eclipse or at any time whatever; for instance, the so‑called “beams,” “trumpets,” “jars,” and the like, for these naturally produce the effects peculiar to Mars and to Mercury — wars, hot weather, disturbed conditions, and the accompaniments of these; and they show, through the parts of the zodiac in which their heads appear and through the directions in which the shapes of their tails point, the regions upon which the misfortunes impend. Through the formations, as it were, of their heads they indicate the kind of the event and the class upon which the misfortune will take effect; through the time which they last, the duration of the events; and through their position relative to the sun likewise their beginning; for in general their appearance in the orient betokens rapidly approaching events and in the occident those that approach more slowly.

A comet in the triplicity of earth will effects some regions, according to Ptolemy:

The parts of this quarter which are situated about the centre of the inhabited world, Thrace, Macedonia, Illyria, Hellas, Achaia, Crete, and likewise the Cyclades, and the coastal regions of Asia Minor and Cyprus, which are in the south-east portion of the whole quarter, have in addition familiarity with the south-east triangle, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, and its co‑rulers Venus, Saturn, and Mercury

Of the second quarter, which embraces the southern part of greater Asia, the other parts, including India, Ariana, Gedrosia, Parthia, Media, Persia, Babylonia, Mesopotamia, and Assyria, which are situated in the south-east of the whole inhabited world, are, as we might presume, familiar to the south-eastern triangle, Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, and are governed by Venus and Saturn in oriental aspects.

Since the comet will be in the sign of Taurus we can expect that something will happen in those regions of earth which are under the lordship of the triangle of earth and in particular of the sign of Taurus. The comet will be at the Midheaven on the 20th from places like eastern India, Bangladesh, Tibet which are under the influence of Capricorn sign.
For places like Iran, Iraq, Pakistan which are under the sign of Taurus the comet will be between the upper pivot and the XI place.
For places like Balkans, Greece, Cyprus and Turkey which also are under the sign of Taurus will be around the XI place.

Ptolemy says that comets have nature of Mars and Mercury and also the nature shown by its color. The greenish bluish comet so should have nature of Venus and Mercury since green is related to Venus and multi coloring to Mercury. Also the it shape shows it’s mercurial as Cardan says that mercurial comets are with coma, little, bright, of many colors and with a long tail.  The comet will be close to the stars of the tail of the Aries as Botein which have nature of Venus and is a star of passionate nature.  Since the comet is occidental to the Sun the event will start lately,  Cardan says. Moving from south to north an event coming from the south will effects places which are more in the north. The comet is moving also slightly against the order of zodiacal sign indicating, says Cardan, a change in a religion or disorder related to religious matters. Since Venus is a natural signifier of Islamic religion the event could effect some countries with a significant presence of Muslims or involving Muslim groups. Moreover Cardan says

If the comet is venereal it produces ravenous illness, paralysis, violent fevers, heretics, seditious and demagogic leaders, seditions especially in the Muslim religion. If it’s mercurial makes lighting bolts, thunders, earthquakes,  strong winds and destructive tempests also new arts and inventions though dangerous for humans.

So in brief we can say that the comet will bring an event in countries placed in the south east of Europe or in the south of Asia. The event will not show soon and will be probably related to social disorder concerning Muslim religion or a sudden natural disaster.

Let’s look at the following three chart below which are indicative of chart for three regions which could be effected by comet transit. The Moon in Aquarius is moving from the syzygy to  Saturn, her Lord, in Sagittarius  with the star of the froth of Scorpio. Venus the Lord of the comet is in Aquarius opposed to Jupiter in Leo.

The first one for Nicosia in Cyprus. Here the Moon is on the VIII cusp and Venus is on the IX cusp. The Moon is also the Lord of the horoscope and Betelgeuse, of Mars Mercury nature, is rising. The comet is in the XI place with its tail toward the XII place. This figure is not good at all since the Moon, lord of Ascendent, is in aversion with the horoscope and Venus on the XI house indicates religious or ideological conflicts.

Comet Nicosia

The second chart for Tehran, Persia.

Comet Tehran

The third chart is for Kolkata in India. India is under the Capricorn but still belongs to the earth triplicity and in eastern India the comet will be at the upper pivot. Here Jupiter, the Lord of the VIII house is rising and opposes Venus and Mercury at the occidental angle.

The Imperishable Augustan Star

“Iam redit et Virgo, redeunt saturnia regna” Vergilius

The star transit
On August 19th this year was the two thousandth anniversary of the death of Gaius Octavius Augustus, the first, most lasting and most beloved of the Roman Emperors who was worthy of being deified. Evil tongues said, however, that in the death of Augustus there was the hand of his affectionate wife Livia: who, in order to raise Tiberio to the throne, eliminated, by any means, the other competitors. Only his nephew, Agrippa Postumus, son of Julia, dissolute emperor’s daughter, was remained: the young man was like his mother, and therefore the grandfather, Augustus, had relegated him to the small island of Pianosa, to calm down. When she got the news that Augustus had met the nephew secretly, she feared that the old man would have brought back Agrippa to Rome and entrusted him with the throne. The emperor, who was not greedy, was fond of figs. One day, ate figs that Livia had poisoned: the voluptuousness was fatal to him. So evil tongues said. One thing is certain: the last days of the Emperor were troubled by intestinal disorders of varying intensity. That did not stop him, accompanying his heir Tiberius to Benevento, to perform its usual activities, stopping prior to Capri for a little rest and then in Naples. On the way back, the disease worsened to the point that Tiberius was recalled back and Augustus was transported to his villa of Nola. On August 19, sensing the imminent end, he asked for a mirror, made his hair to be styled and his sagging cheeks to be firmed with ointments. After having prepared himself to die in a dignified way, then Augustus allowed friends to enter the room and asked if they believed that he had played well, to the last line, the farce of life. Because those were hesitant to respond – could sound an offense both the affirmative or the negative answer- the dying emperor answered by himself: “Because I was a good actor, grant me your applause, and joyfully let’s bid farewell to each other. “. Then he ordered all of them to leave and said to his wife “Livia, remember our marriage till you live, and bye! ” He died between her kisses. It was the ninth hour, between two and three o’clock in the afternoon of the 19th of August 14: The emperor died in the same room in which his father had died. August obtained from the Gods the “euthanasia”, the quick death without suffering he had always wished for himself and his loved ones.

The brilliance of a man of fate
But who Emperor August was as a man? Suetonius in his book De Vita Caesarum tells us a lot of interesting detail about his life. Augustus was always in poor health conditions since childhood: he suffered from colitis, eczema, rheumatic fever, bladder stones. He was troubled all life by serious and dangerous illnesses. Of other ones he suffered periodically. In the days close to his birthday anniversary he felt almost always bad. In spring he was subject to edema of hearts and lungs; with the sirocco he had head colds. His body was spotted with congenital stains on chest and belly, he was wobbly from the left side where he often limped. He suffered the heat and the cold, slept a short, light, discontinuous sleep. He took great care not to fatigue and exposure to agents that would compromise his already poor health. He didn’t expose himself to the sun; traveling at night with short stages, preferably by sea. He washed himself infrequently. He dressed heavily. Despite his poor health was good-looking, albeit small well proportionate, fair-haired with slightly wavy hair, small teeth and ears, one eyebrow, the prominent nose in the upper part, thinned in the lower part. He was frugal in food and drink. He loved instead the game, especially the dice and pleasures of Venus. The gossips told that he was an unrepentant adulterer and someone said that in his youth he was helped in his career by powerful men to whom he granted his favors. As soon as possible he abandoned the exercise of arms and the horse riding. He loved instead cultivate eloquence and liberal studies. He practiced daily in reading, writing and play. He wrote well meditated and composed discourses which he used to read. He preferred the elegant and moderate eloquence devoid of unnecessary frills. He sponsored the great minds and artists of his time. He like to spend his spear time fishing, playing with dice or pebbles or nuts together with children. He was pious, religious, and did not neglect the omens almost to superstition. He feared lightning and because of that fear he hide himself, mindful of a time when a lightning almost hit him. He had many dreams, especially in the spring, scary but vain and fallacious. Suetonius says that when he was in Apollonia with Agrippa he went up on the terrace of the astrologer Theogenes, having been predicted honors and fame to Agrippa, he didn’t want to reveal his date of birth. But when, after much insistence, surrendered, immediately Theogenes fell to his feet worshiping him, having predicted his shining destiny. Later, gained great confidence in his destiny, he coined and popularized his horoscope and coined a silver coin with the sign of Capricorn, under which, Suetonius says, he was born. Of course so much confidence shouldn’t have been enough to forget the common sense if during the 11, circulating many rumors about the death of Augustus, he published his horoscope but at the same time forbade with an edict that fortune-tellers could predict someone’s death. There is no doubt that the edict was directed primarily against the astrologers. The death predictions actually ended up giving courage to who, wife, slave or enemy considers the action of the stars in need of some help.

The birth date of Augustus
Let us look at the horoscope of Augustus to see if there is consistency and determine at the same time the points that Suetonius leave uncertain. Suetonius says that Augustus was born on the ninth day before the Kalends of October, shortly before dawn, in the neighborhood of the Palatine in Rome. This date corresponds to the 22th of September, 63 BC of the calendar of Numa. Unfortunately we can’t take this date for good because it’s not correct just to translate a date in the old roman calendar of Numa to a date in the proleptic Julian calendar, without any conversion. The problem in converting dates preceding the Julian calendar to a prolectic Julian calendar is not easily solved and, even if some conjectures can be figured out, the results remain uncertain. In the Republican era, the Romans used the so-called calendar of Numa that he was subject to abuse and mistakes that led to an average phase shift of three months compared to the seasons; summer was postponed to October and November months which at the time of Numa were autumnal. The calendar of Numa consisted of 12 months, for a total of 355 days. In addition, a 27-day intercalary month, the Mensis Intercalaris or Mercedonius, was sometimes inserted between February and March. This intercalary month was formed by inserting 22 days after the first 23 or 24 days of February; the last five days of February, which counted down toward the start of March, became the last five days of Intercalaris. The effect was to add 22 or 23 days to the year, forming an intercalary year of 377 or 378 days. According to later latin writes, as Censorinus and Macrobius, ideally an intercalary month, alternatively of 22 and 23 days, would have been added every two years. If this ideal cycle would have been followed the Calendar of Numa should have been stayed in synch with the tropical year but intercalations were established by Pontifeces though and they did not occur systematically according to the ideal system. So far as can be determined from the historical evidence, they were much less regular than these ideal schemes suggest. They usually occurred every second or third year, but were sometimes omitted for much longer, and occasionally occurred in two consecutive years. When too many intercalations were omitted, as happened after the Second Punic War and during the Civil Wars, the calendar would drift out of alignment with the tropical year. The problems became particularly acute during the years of Julius Caesar’s pontificate before the reform, 63–46 BC, when there were only five intercalary months (instead of eight), none of which were during the five Roman years before 46 BC. In order to realign seasons and calendar Julius Caesar, probably during his expedition to Egypt in 46 BC (-45), commissioned to the Alexandrian astronomer Sosigenes to design a new, more functional calendar. This new calendar, which took the name of Julian, came into effect in 45 BC (-44), which was an exceptional year. The Julian calendar abolished the Mercedonius month and inserted every 4 years an extra day, said bis-sextum, so called because inserted the day after February 24th (the day VI before the calends of March); this special year was called annus bixsestus.

Realignment of the year
The first step of the reform was to realign the start of the calendar year (1 January) to the tropical year by making 46 BC 445 days long, compensating for the intercalations which had been missed during Caesar’s pontificate. This year had already been extended from 355 to 378 days by the insertion of a regular intercalary month in February. When Caesar decreed the reform, probably shortly after his return from the African campaign in late Quintilis (July), he added 67 more days by inserting two extraordinary intercalary months between November and December. Because 46 BC was the last of a series of irregular years, this extra-long year was, and is, referred to as the ” ultimus annus confusionis”. The new calendar began operation after the realignment had been completed, in 45 BC. Unfortunately we don’t know exactly how many Mercedonius months, how long and when they occurred between the 63 B.C, the year when Augustus was born and Julius Cesar became Pontefix Maximus and the 45 BC when the new Julian calendar came into effect, but we know that at least there were 5 intercalary year and, since the added days of the two extraordinary intercalary months matches three regular intercalations (67 = 22+22+23), so it is possible that that they were intended to compensate for intercalary months that had been omitted earlier in Caesar’s pontificate and so we can suppose the only five regular intercalary months were omitted.

Suitable Julian Dates for Augustus’ birth
Let’s calculate some suitable date for Augustus’ birth. Between the 1st of January 63 of Calendar of Numa e the 1st of January of Julian Calendar there 18 years of Numa, 17 of them of 355 days (without considering any intercalary month) and the last one of 455 days.

Between the 1st January 63 B.C. of Julian Calendar and the beginning of Julian Calendar 1st January 45 B.C. there are 18 year of 365 days to whose 4 days should be added due to the leap years, that is 6574 days. Now, taking in account that we don’t know if the first year of the julian reform calendar was a leap year or not we have to consider the following equivalences:

1st January 45 B.C. of the Julian Calendar = 2nd January 45 PROLECTIC JC if 45 B.C. was not a leap year

1st January 45 B.C. of the Julian Calendar = 1st January 45 PROLECTIC JC if 45 B.C. was a leap year

And so we have

If we suppose that the intercalation was regular except for the gap in the last five years of Caesar’s pontificate, only 28, 29 or 30 August and 20 or 21 September are suitable.

The Geniture

Suetonio wrote that Augustus was born under the Capricorn sign and indeed Augustus himself choose that sign as its symbol to be stamp on coin. In ancient times to be born under a sign meant to have that sign rising at the horoscope. Since Augustus was born a short time before down we know that the Sun was in the first house near the horoscope. Being the Sun in Virgo at that time of the year, it was not possible that the raising sign was Capricorn. Among the suitable dates, mentioned above, we can only choose the 21st September 63 B.C. because it’s the only one that it’s related to Capricorn. The 21st of September the Moon was at the beginning of the sign of Capricorn and, since the geniture was nocturnal, Moon was also the light of the time. We now need to find the hour and minute of the birth date of Augustus. So we rectify the geniture trying to find a direction of death for the 19th of August 14 A.C: the suitable direction is of Saturn opposing the Moon in mundo for 5:24:08 a.m local time.
Octavianus Augustus

The shining son of Mercury
Mercury, the lord of horoscope in Virgo, is rising at the oriental pivot, in its own domicile and exaltation, oriental to the Sun, matutine, conjunct with the fixed star Arcturus. It will also do the heliacal setting in the next seven days. So Mercury is very dignified and powerful. Mercury is the Almuten according to Ibn Ezra being the most essentially dignified on the five aphetic points: Sun, Moon, Horoscope, Part of Fortune, Prenatal Sizygy; and it’s also the dignified accidentally being near the ascendent. If we consider the the Lord of the Nativity according to Porphyry, that is, the planet that has more essential dignity in domicile and terms on Ascendent, Moon, MC, Lot of Fortune and Prenatal Sizygy we see that Mercury has dignity on all of them except the Lot of Fortune. Mercury also is highlighted because is doing a heliacal phase. Considering instead the Lord of Geniture as the most powerful planet in the chart both for essential and accidental dignity we again find Mercury and possibly Jupiter. If we use the Cielo e Terra’s method, derived from the Argoli’s method, where the two kind of lordship of the nativity, the dominance over the aphetic places and the dominance as more powerful planet, are signified by two lords, one showing the being of the native, the giver of the agenda, namely the Rex, and the other one showing the actor, the way the native try to accomplish the agenda, namely the Miles, we find that Augustus’ Rex is Mercury, and his Miles is Jupiter. So Augustus is a true son of Mercury, having the nature of Mercury as we see from his skills in managing affairs and people, his diplomacy and political strategy, his fondness of studies, eloquence and liberal arts. Jupiter as Miles, on the other hand, is very supportive and helpful for a leader and a legislator destined to became so great and famous.

A star of first magnitude
Ptolemy writes in the Tetrabiblos about the Fortune and Dignity of a native:

“For if both the luminaries are in masculine signs and either both of them, or even one of the two, angular, and particularly if the luminary of the sect is also attended by the five planets, matutine to the sun and vespertine to the moon, the children will be kings. And if the attendant planets are either themselves angular or bear an aspect to the superior angle, the children born will continue to be great, powerful, and world-rulers, and they will be even more fortunate if the attendant planets are in dexter aspect to the superior angles.”

Here we see that both the Sun and Moon are angular, though in feminine signs. Sun in oriental pivot in Virgo receives doryphory from Mercury angular, visible in Virgo raising before the Sun. Mercury is Lord of the Sun, in its own domicile and exaltation. Also Jupiter in its exaltation in Cancer from the upper pivot act as doryphory to the Sun. Both Mercury and Jupiter are doryphory to the Sun, according to Ptolemy, because they are oriental and matutine to the Sun. Saturn and Mars are oriental but not matutine to the Sun. Venus is occidental to the Sun and oriental to the Moon, so is not in a position to be doryphory neither to the Sun nor the the Moom. None of the planets is occidental and vespertine to the Moon., so any planet act as doryphory to Moon. According to Rhetorius:

“Doryphory is when an angular star in its own domicile or exaltation is expected by another star in its own domicile or exaltation. Or, when a luminary is in AS or MC and in the domicile of another there chances to be a star of the sect, it will expect the Sun in the degree rising before but the Moon in the one rising after. Sometimes doryphory is said when, with Soon or Moon angular, a star of the sect is in doryphory ”.

Therefore Mercury and Jupiter are doryphory to the Sun and moreover Jupiter is doryphory to Mercury. For the last definition of Rhetorius also Saturn is a doryphory to the Sun. Mars is doryphory to the Moon for the last definition of Rhetorius. Jupiter also make an out-of-sect doryphory to the Moon casting a diametric ray from Cancer. Morover Mercury, being the lord of the MC is close to the ascendent is another sign of eminence, as Schoener says:

“For if the lord of the Ascendent is in the Medium Coeli or the lord of the Medium Coeli is in the Ascendent, the native will have high rank and the friendship of prince, magistrate and officials”

So even if we don’t find in this geniture exactly what we should have expected according to Ptolemy, we have noticed some very remarkable signs of a distinguished geniture. The kind of honors must be inspected from the planets doing doryphory: Mercury and Jupiter. From Mercury come honors by intelligence, education, and the care and management of affairs and from Juppiter those ones coming from favours, gifts, honours, and magnanimity. The Part of Fortune,Tyche,is close to the Imum Coeli and its lord, Jupiter, is in X house in its exaltation. More over Tyche is configured to Sun by a square. The Part of Spririt, Daimon, is close to the MC and its lord is Mercury in Virgo, dignified for domicile and exaltation raising at the horoscope. Also Daimon is configured to Mercury by a square. The lord of action also is Mercury because is matutine planet most oriental to the Sun. Though again we found the help of Jupiter who is the planet closer to MC and having familiarity with the Moon. Moreover Jupiter testifies Mercury. In In fact Ptolemy says:

“The lord of action is apprehended by two methods, from the sun and from the culminating sign. For it will be needful to look both for the planet that has made its morning appearance closest to the sun, and that which is at midheaven, particularly when it occupies the application of the moon; and if the same star occupies both the aforesaid positions, this alone must be employed, and similarly if none occupies one of these places, we must use only the one which occupies the other of the places. And if one planet has made the nearest morning appearance and another is associated with the midheaven, and with the moon, we must employ them both, giving preference to the one which by reason of its strength has the greater number of claims to domination according to the scheme which we have already set forth”

And being Mercury lord of action:

“If it is Jupiter that witnesses, they will be law-makers, orators, sophists, who enjoy familiarity with great persons.” Augustus’s activities, personal qualities and good fortune brought him to be the leader and governor of the Roman Empire during a long and peaceful, prosperous period. Character is destiny as Heraclitus said. Augustus character and destiny was to shine as the most bright star in the heaven.

A crown of stars
In the emperor’s geniture some bright stars are conjuncted to planets. Mercury with Arcturus, of nature of Mars and Juppiter, raising at the oriental pivot. Since Mercury is also the soul significator, according to Argoli, Arcturus gives moral uprightness, ambition; to command; according to Pazelius, loyalty. When Arcturus is raising at the horoscope makes those ones who rule cities and countries, who govern, who pursue their aims, who damage their enemies, who are ready to take action, effectual, manly, victorious, prosperous, rich, magnanimous. Sirius and Castor are close to midheaven . Castor has nature of Mercury. Sirius, of nature of Jupiter and Mars, when raising or culminating gives great honor and authority, says Argoli. Moreover also noteworthy are Sun with Spica, of nature of Venus and Mercury and Moon with Vega, of nature of Venus and Mercury, added more strenght to the dignity and eminence of Augustus. Notable are also Venus with Antares, of nature of Mars and Juppiter, and Saturn and Mars with the Pleiades, of nature of Moon and Mars.

The emperor’s body and soul
The significator of body is Mercury, though some secondary influence from Saturn and Jupiter. Mercury is lord of horoscope, dignified by domicile and exaltation and also has familiarity with the Moon. Jupiter is configured by diameter with the Moon from her domicile and Saturn is trine to Moon being her dispositor. Ptolemy says:

“Mercury, occidental, makes them, in appearance, of light but not of good coloring, with straight hair and olive complexion, lean and spare, with glancing, brilliant eyes, and somewhat ruddy; in temperament they exceed in the dry.”

Mercury, being occidental in the epicycle, heading to the heliacal setting, is very dry. The Moon having passed the first quarter is moist and hot and receive the influence from Jupiter, moist and hot and to a much lesser extent from Saturn and Mars which distempered the humors. The horoscope has familiarity with Jupiter and Venus adding some humidity to the complexion. The Sun in the first house near the ascendant, in the summer quadrant gives a hot and dry influence. We can conclude that temperament of Augustus was mainly temperate melancholic dominated by dry humors. The small, delicate but well proportionated figure of Augustus is very well indicated by Mercury in Virgo. Virgo as a human sign gives harmonious look. But we can’t forget to mention the debilitating influence from retrograde Mars and Saturn which has familiarity in mundo with Mercury by a dexter trigon and also with Moon by a sinister trine. Mars and Saturn both dry but conversely the first one very hot and the last one very cold are very distemperant. They harshen the abundant dryness of his body and weakened it with their opposite hot and cold qualities. Augustus was very sensitive to the cold and the hot weather and every influence from the environment was unbalancing for him. Mars in Taurus signifies the kidneys and neck while Saturn in Taurus belly, heart and chest. August suffered of illness in each of those body parts. Saturn is also the lord of the VI house so illness from cold are especially dangerous. The congenital stains on Augustus’ chest and belly were due to the Moon posited in Capricorn as Ptolemy says. Mercury is also the lord of the soul. Says Ptolemy

“Mercury, by himself taking the domination of the soul, in an honorable position makes those who are born under him wise, shrewd, thoughtful, learned, inventive, experienced, good calculators, inquirers into nature, speculative, gifted, emulous, beneficent, prudent, good at conjecture, mathematicians, partakers in mysteries, successful in attaining their ends.”

Because Mercury has familiarity with Jupiter which is able to act, being in the X house we should take into account also its influence. Again Ptolemy

“Jupiter allied with Mercury in honorable positions makes his subjects learned, fond of discussion, geometricians, mathematicians, poets, orators, gifted, sober, of good intellect, good in counsel, statesmen, benefactors, managers, good-natured, generous, lovers of the mob, shrewd, successful, leaders, reverent, religious, skillful in business, affectionate, lovers of their own kin, well brought up, philosophical, dignified.”

The marriages and liaisons
Augustus married three times. The first two marriages last both only two year and the very first one with Claudia Pulchra was even declared by Octavianus to be not even consummated. Clearly those marriages were suggested by political and strategic alliances more than by romantic feelings. Even the last, long lasting marriage with Livia Drusilla who was very dear to Augustus and very influential over him was probably due to the strategic advantages of joining two important roman families: the gens Iulia and the gens Claudia. From the Moon we can evaluate lawful association of man and wife, as Ptolemy says. The Moon is in a eastern quadrant and so Augustus married quite early: he was 21 years old. Since the Moon is in a multiple sign, Capricorn, and configured with many planets he had more the one wife as we know. The planets to whom she is applying are Venus, Mercury and Jupiter. So the first wife, Claudia Pulchra, should have been cheerful, beautiful, and charming, as the significator Venus let us suppose, but she was not enough appealing to the future emperor not to divorce from her without not even have touched her. The second one, Scribonia, intelligent and keen. The last one, Livia, according to significator Jupiter, dignified and good manager. Regarding the Augustus’ disposition in matter of love we have to investigate through Mars, says Ptolemy. Mars exiled in Taurus is conjunct with Saturn and configured with Jupiter. The Moon is defluxing from Mars and applying to Venus joining the passionate nature of the two planets. Venus receives from Mars, through the mediation of the Moon, the gift of her domicile in Taurus, while Mars receives the dignity of his domicile in Scorpio. The position of Moon is not easy because she is in exile in Capricorn and gets the debility of her fall from Venus in Scorpio but is moving forward toward Mars which grants her the dignity of her exaltation. Augustus was easily roused and passionate at the same time continent, hold themselves in check, and avoid unseemliness which was not appropriated for his political carrier and social status.

The Augustus’s death
Let’s begin to look at the Solar Return chart for his birthdate occurred before his death. The ascendent is in Sagittarius, its lord Jupiter is close the the Cauda Draconis. Mars out-of-sect in its exaltation in Capricorn in the I house. The moon is in Leo in the VIII house squared by Saturn in Scorpio which brings the fall debility to her.

The comparison between the Solar Revolution with the Nativity shows the Sun of Solar Revolution squares the Lot of Fortune of the Nativity and Mars of Solar Revolution joint with the Moon of Nativity.

If we look at the comparison between the Profection and the Nativity we see the profected Moon conjunct with Mars and Saturn of the Nativity, the profected Sun conjunct with the Moon of the Nativity and the profected Mercury, in exile in Sagittarius,  joined with profected ascendant squared by the profected Sun.

The direction of death is from Saturn to the Moon.
Saturn was in Cancer in the bounds of Mars. So the death should have been caused by the influx of Saturn and Mars in the stomach and belly. No configuration of Venus are present so the wife of August, Livia, should be regarded as innocent victim of malicious insinuations. In the chart of the direction we see the directed Jupiter conjunct with the Sun of the Nativity: the softening nature of Jupiter gifted August with a quick death without suffering: the “euthanasia”.
