Tycho Brahe, the Danish Stargazer

Thycho Brahe was a Danish nobleman, astronomer, astrologer and alchimist. He is famous for his accurate and extensive stellar and planetary observations. His fascination with astronomical observation began when, as a boy, he saw an eclipse of the Sun which took place at exactly the time it was predicted. During his life’s work he measured the positions of celestial bodies every night it was possible to scry the sky, and carefully recording these measurements, year after year. His observations were some five times more accurate than the best available observations at the time. He reported also a new phenomenon on 11 November 1572: a bright star, never observed before, which had unexpectedly appeared in the constellation Cassiopeia. Since he noted that the new celestial object showed no daily parallax against the background of the fixed stars and it did not change its position relative to the fixed stars over several months he understood that it should have been a far distant star: a new star, a ‘stella nova’, called now a supernova in modern astronomy. This discovery was a milestone in breaking the aristotelian world-view which asserts the immutability and unchangeable nature of stars and celestial bodies.

The Geniture

From George Ludwig Frobenius, a german polymath versed in mathematic and astronomy who stayed with Tycho at his observatory in Hven island, we have two version of Tycho’s geniture.

Version I

Version II

The second version, which seems more accurate, reports his birth in Knutstorp on 13th December 22:47 PM, which, counting the days from noon, is 14th December 10:47.

The temperament

We firstly note that Jupiter and Venus are rising in the Tycho’s geniture. The ascendent is in Aquarius, domicile and triplicity of Saturn and bounds of Venus. Moreover Saturn is in sextile with the horoscope. The Moon in Virgo is applying  to Saturn and then Mercury.  Saturn is combust so he’s quite weak. So Venus and Jupiter are the Lord of Temperament and Saturn participates. Tycho’s temperament is sanguine because of Jupiter and Venus. Venus is moist and warm because she is occidental. Jupiter is occidental and he is warm. Saturn adds a melancholic tone to the mainly sanguine complexion. The conjunction of Saturn and Mercury is a sign of stutterers but Mars squares in mundo Saturn and so he loose the tongue. Lets note tha Mars is in the first house but considerebly distant from the horoscope, so he is not directly partecipant in Tycho’s temperament. Anyway Mars is still in the first house, in his domicile in Aries and in aspect with Saturn. Since Mars is out-of-sect he adds impulsivness and impetuosity to his attidute and he caused him much troubles as we will see.
Sir David Brewster writes in his book “The Martyrs of Science: The Lives of Galieo, Tycho Brahe, and Kepler”:

Tycho was a little above the middle size, and in the last years of his life he was slightly corpulent. He had reddish yellow hair and a ruddy complexion. He was of a sanguine temperament, and is said to have been sometimes irritable, and even obstinate. This failing, however, if he did posses it, was not exhibited towards his pupils or his scientific friends, who ever entertained for him the warmest affection and esteem.

The Lord of the Soul

Mercury is in Capricorn, oriental, combust. Mercury is in conjunction with Saturn at the end of Sagittarius. The Moon in Virgo, as we have already seen, is applying to Saturn and Mercury by a square. Moreover the Moon is in trine in mundo with Mercury. So Mercury and Saturn are the Lord of the Soul.

Valens says:

Saturn and Mercury are allies and productive of activities/employment. They do, however, bring slanders about religion, lawsuits, and debts, as well as disturbances about written matters and money. On the other hand, these stars make men who are not without resources and not unintelligent, with much experience and awareness, and who are curious, far-seeing scholars, seekers after mystic lore, revering the gods, but with much on their consciences.

Liber Hermetis says:

Saturn joined with Mercury makes prudent, informed, magicians knowing celestial things, knowledgeable of bad or of hidden things.

The Profession

Mercury is oriental in a diunal geniture and so is a candidate for the Lord of action. Mercury is also combust but the nearness to the Sun is not a real impediment for Mercury as it is for the other planets. The Moon in Virgo is angular and applaying to Saturn and Mercury. So Mercury is receiving the Moon. This is a further indication for Mercury to be the lord of Action.

Rhetorius the Egyptian says:

If Mercury changes to be in a good house, and expecially in a domicile of Saturn, not under the Sunbeams and expected by Jupiter, Saturn and Mars, it makes astrologer, diviner and priest.

In Tycho’s geniture Mercury is in Capricorn, a domicile of Saturn, and in conjuction with Saturn but Mercury is combust. Nevetherless the conjunction of Saturn and Mercury is an indicator of mathematicians and astronomers.

Venus is occidental but she has already the mean motion. She is with Jupiter, the Lord of the MC, both configurated with MC sicne they are at the horoscope. They for sure add fame and notoriety and success to Tycho’s actions. Even more so both Jupiter and Venus are in trine with Tyche and Tyche is with the star Arcturus.

Pezel says that, when Arcturus is in conjunction with the significators of wealth as the Lot of Fortune and the second house cusp or the Luminaries and their dispositors means incrising in wealth and very high honors.

The Duel

While at university in Germany he had a duel with a fellow student over which one was the best mathematician. He was attending a wedding party at Professor Lucas Bachmeister’s house on 10 December 1566 where everybody, including Tycho, drunk too much. He soon got in a heated argument with Manderup Parsberg, another Danish student who was his third cousin. They quarreled again on the 27th and they decided to resolve the question challenging each other to a duel. On the 29 December 1566 during the duel Tycho lost part of his nose and gained a broad scar across his forehead. In order to disguise his terrible disfigurement he wore a prosthetic nose for the rest of his life.

Mars by direction arrives at the horoscope on 24th Dicember 1566. Mars in the geniture is in Aries in the first house and out-of-sect. Since Aries signifies the head and Mars gives wounds the direction is in agreement with the event.

The profected Moon is with Mars of Nativity.

Moreover Mars in the Solar Revolution is at 24° Sagittarius and squares the Moon of Nativity at 23° of Virgo.

The Observatory

On the 23rd May 1576 a document was signed by Friederick II, the King of Denmark,  in which  he offered Tycho the island of Hven and funding to set up an observatory.

Saturn reaches by mundane direction the Lot of Fortune which was in the giniture in the bounds of Saturn and was in sextile and parallel in mundo with Saturn.

The death

Brahe died from a bladder infection on 24 October 1601, after etiquette kept him from excusing himself to use the bathroom during a royal banquet in October 1601 in Prague, causing his bladder to rupture.

We see that the Sun, which is the apheta, reaches by mundane direction the opposition to the natal Mars.

It’s interesting to note that Vettius Valens says that the seventh place from Daimon rules the bladder. In Tycho’s geniture in that place we found Saturn, Mercury and the Sun.

The common terrorist

Omar Ismail Mostefai was  the 29-years-old  French terrorist of Algerian origin who attacked with other two terrorists at the Bataclan theatre, where a rock concert with 1500 people in the audience took place. He blew himself up with suicide west in Bataclan theatre after having killed 87 members of the audience.

He was raised in the Parisian suburb of Courcourronnes, where he lived with his large family and he was involved in petty crime and arrested eight times but never put in jail. He was known by investigators as a possible radical muslim but he never underwent further investigations.

He was a young guy, used to hang out with mates and spend time racing car. One of his acquaintances remember him as a good person, the kind of guy who, if you had an issue with a group from another area, would help you out.

In the last few years Mostefai had a young daughter and moved in the area of Chartres.

The geniture

I rectified the geniture for the day of his death.

Since the nativity is diurnal and the Sun is on the cusp of the IX place, the Sun is the Apheta. But the Moon in the first place applying to the Sun is also quite powerful. The out-of-sect malefic is Mars in exile in Libra in the  VII place.

The direction of  death

By direction the bounds of Saturn reached the Moon at the end of July 2012 then the bounds of Mars reach the Moon in 25th November 2015. Just before the shift from bound of Saturn to bounds of Mars, Mars of direction makes a parallel in mundo with the Moon.

The last Solar Return

The Luminaries are in the VIII place in aversion with the horoscope. Also Mercury,Venus and Saturn are in the VIII place. Venus and Saturn are combust. The Moon in fall in Scorpio. Jupiter is in the cadent VI place. All planet are peregrine except Saturn in its own terms and Mars in exaltation in Capricorn. Mars, lord of the horoscope, square in mundo both the Moon and Mercury. So no benefic planet can help and the out-of-sect Mars receives the Moon.

The profection

In the protection for the day of the terroristic attack, the profected horoscope is on the occident of the nativity. Moreover the Mars of profection is almost in conjunction with the Moon of nativity.

The Lord of Activity

Venus is oriental but it’s not making an appearance so it couldn’t be the lord of activity. Also Mercury, retrograde, under the sun rays is not suitable.

Mars is oriental, doing the heliacal rising so Mars is the Lord of activity. Mars is out-of-sect in detriment in Libra but it is in the angular VII house and so it is able to act but in a very unpleasant and harmful way.

Mars is in aspect with Jupiter and Mercury, and in parallel of declination with the Moon.

Valens say about Mars which trines with Jupiter:

They become bunglers of army and naval battles; they become bandit chiefs, violent leaders, sadists, drinkers of blood. If the nativity is professional, e.g. a notary or a lawyer, the native becomes an informer. If the configuration includes Mercury, and if the moon has contact with Mars, the situation is quite terrible: such men become worse than wild beasts.

Moreover Rethorius says about the seventh place:

Mars in this place, in the day, makes those who are full of trouble, wicked, violent murders, torturers, traitors. Some are short-lived, especially if this star aspects the angular Moon. Indeed, in general, Mars in this place, and in the night than in the day, makes those who suffer a violent death. When in alien places it causes sickness and causes hardships, injuries and falls. By night creates troubles and upheavals in every activities;also it brings burns or iron wounds or hidden pain when the year comes to its government. It brings activities connected with iron or fire or with military art or violence or torture and killing of men or convictions.

The Lord of the Soul

Jupiter rules over Mercury and the Moon, being the lord of their domicile, and also is in aspect with Mercury. Moreover the Moon is applying to Sun and Saturn and Jupiter and Saturn are in parallel of declination. Also between Jupiter and Saturn there is commutatio, that is, they dispose of each other, being the lord of the domicile of the other one. This familiarities bound the two planets.

Jupiter is occidental, peregrine and cadent in the XII place, Saturn is combust, peregrine in a succedent house so they are both debilited and weak.

Ptolemy says:

Saturn, allied with Jupiter in the way described, again in dignified positions, makes his subjects good, respectful to elders, sedate, noble-minded, helpful,critical, fond of possessions, magnanimous, generous, of good intentions, lovers of their friends, gentle, wise, patient, philosophical; but in the opposite positions, he makes them uncultured, mad, easily frightened, superstitious, frequenters of shrines, public confessors of ailments, suspicious, hating their own children, friendless, hiding within doors, without judgement, faithless, knavishly foolish, venomous, hypocritical, ineffective, unambitious, prone to change their minds, stern, hard to speak with or to approach, cautious, but nevertheless foolish and submissive to abuse.

The Sultan of Turkey trembles

The first of November 2015 a new general election will be held in Turkey since the last election of the 7 June 2015 resulted in a hung parliament.

Erdogan, who was prime minister for eleven year till 2014 and its now president of Turkey, called in August for new election after the Justice and Development Party (AKP) lost the absolute majority and it was impossible to form a coalition. Erdogan, founder of the AKP, wanted to give a second possibility to his party to gain the absolute majority and so to realize his project to transform Turkey into a presidential republic.

Erdogan, a very shrewd and charismatic leader and politician, was involved in corruption scandals and controversies and his increasing weakness begins to be reveled by dissent which show up as partial lost of political consensus of his party, the AKP.

The  geniture

Temperament

Since the Horoscope is in Capricorn, domicile of Saturn and exaltation of Mars, and Saturn is at the MC squaring the ascendent and Mars is conjunct with the Moon, Saturn and  Mars are the  Lords of Temperament. Saturn oriental, is cold and moderately dry; Mars oriental, matutine is hot and dry. The Moon is in the last quarter, waining so she adds a more melancholic tone. Moreover the Mars and Moon are with the star Antares, of nature of Mars and Jupiter, and with Vega, star of nature of Venus and Mercury. So his temperament is mainly dry and temperate, that is, melancholic choleric. His body is  quite tall and robust, with  a rosy complexion and brown eyes. Saturn is the constellation of Virgo and the ascendent in the constellation of Sagittarius, so they give a bigger and well shaped body but the Moon and Mars in the constellation of Scorpio lessen the grace and proportion of the body.

Lord of the Soul

Since the Moon is in Sagitarius with Mars and Mercury with Venus in Pisces, squared by Jupiter the Lords of the Soul are Jupiter and Mars but Venus contributes because she is with Mercury exalted in Pisces, doing the evening heliacal rising.

Ptolemy says

Jupiter allied with Mars in honourable positions makes his subjects rough, pugnacious, military, managerial, restless, unruly, ardent, reckless, practical, outspoken, critical, effective, contentious, commanding, given to plotting, respectable, virile, fond of victory, but magnanimous, ambitious, passionate, judicious, successful. In the opposite position he makes them insolent, undiscriminating, savage, implacable, seditious, contentious, stubborn, slanderous, conceited, avaricious, rapacious, quickly changeable, light, readily changing their minds, unstable, headstrong, untrustworthy, of poor judgement, unfeeling, excitable, active, querulous, prodigal, gossipy, and in all ways uneven and easily excited.

Jupiter is not very well placed being in detriment in Gemini and occidental and furthermore Mars are Jupiter are in opposition and the opposition is a discordant figure. So this aspect gives to the quality of his soul a negative shade. Venus in is exaltation in Pisces, doing the evening heliacal rising gives him a magnetic personality and soften his hard attitude and make him more jovial especially in a familiar environment.

About the opposition of Mar and Jupiter notable is what the Anonymous says:

Produces all sorts of irregularities and confusion concerning the condition of life and changes friends into enemies, since Jupiter is indeed the cause of peace, Mars of wrath and anger and the diameter figure is hostile. It means the worries that come from precipitation and from the agitated thoughts.

and Firmicus adds:

They raise serious danger because of stormy relationships or hazardous activities.

Firmicus says about the Mars Moon conjunction:

This conjunction makes men hot tempered and every activity they begin often has a successful outcome, especially if these stars are placed in an angle of the geniture. And though it’s decreed for them a short life time or a premature end obstacles the course of their lives. For someone it inflicts the stain of a poor health and dangerous situations of all kinds. And if anything of that happens, it causes an unhappy and miserable end or moves against them the power of the ironware or of the sword. This union shows for the mother the sad scourge of the disease, so her body is weakened by infirmity. But if Jupiter, located in favorable places of the geniture or in the main corners, in his home or in his exaltation, observes these stars with benign radiation, the dangers of all these accidents are mitigated.

Moreover we must point out the conjunction of Moon and Mars with star Antares. Indeed if it rises or culminates gives honors and elevation when it is commingled with benevolent planets; it behaves contrary, if it is commingled with malefics. Pretty bad for the body and for the uncertain fortune; it makes a man furious and reckless, Cardano says. And he adds: with the Moon it makes violent men, with great audacity and many dangers. According to Pezelius, with the significators of the soul it gives violent traits and audacity mixed with cruelty.

The quality of action and dignity of the native

Mars oriental to the Sun, receiving the application of the Moon and having dominion on the MC is the Lord of Activities. Jupiter is configured with Mars in Sagittarius so it participates. Saturn contributes being at the MC. Saturn generally makes manager and administrators.

Ptolemy says:

Mars,in aspect with the sun,… If Jupiter testifies, he produces soldiers, police officers, publicans, innkeepers, ferrymen, assistants at sacrifice.

Rethorius says:

The star of Mars changing to be in the star of the Good Daemon by night makes the existence of many good things and those who are deemed worthy of honor by the people, and friends among the powerful.

Concerning the honor and dignity we note that the Moon, Luminary of the Time, receives the doryphory of Mars, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury. So the native is quite dignified and will reach a very good social position.

A sinister shadow

We have already observed the presence of Mars with the Moon and with Antares which give a violent nature to the native and dangers and worries. But Mars is in sect so it isn’t too problematic. Instead Saturn, out-of-sect, culminating at the MC, even if it is Lord of the Horoscope, is quite sinister.

Firmicus says:

Saturn by night on the MC indicates misfortunes: loss of inheritance, no marriage, no children, especially if it’s in the house of terms of a malefic planet. But if a benefic planet, that is, Venus or Jupiter if in a favorable aspect to Saturn thus located by night, those things which were denied will be given in another way. But in general Saturn located in any angles by night indicates the greatest evils. He destroys wife and children and always predicts grief from loss of relatives.

In Erdogan’s geniture Saturn is trined by Sun, Mercury and Venus so the dangers are weakened but still incumbent.

A glimpse into the future

Due to the incoming political election in Turkey it is interesting to glance in the Erdogan’s near future.

Profection – 1st november 2015

From the Profection for the 1st of November 2015 we see that the Profected Moon and Mars are received by Horoscope of nativity in Capricorn. The Profected horoscope is with the Sun of nativity in Pisces. Those configurations could not be a good sign about his health. Moreover the Profected Saturn in Sagittarius is in opposition to the Natal Jupiter.

Solar Return 2015

In the last Solar Return we see Mars, the Lord of the Horoscope of Revolution, in its domicile in Aries in the V place with Venus. Vega also is rising at the horoscope. But Saturn of Nativity is over the horoscope of Revolution and Saturn of Revolution in conjunction with the Moon and Mars of  the Nativity which in turn oppose the Moon of Revolution. Moreover the Moon in the Solar Return is in aversion with the horoscope and with Algol and Aldebaran.

The Lord of the year from the Profection is Saturn because is in the lord of the Profected horoscope in Aquarius for the day of the Solar Return. So Erdogan till the next birthday will be ruled by Saturn.  Anyway due to the daily motion of the Horoscope, on the first of November will be already in Pisces and the benefic Jupiter is a far better ruler.

The directions are not good either especially at the end of October but they are very effected by the correctness of the birth hour, which I rectified by his major life event but obviously still remains uncertain.

For sure this year was not very good for Erdogan as we see from the Solar Return and Saturn as Lord of the year. After the next elections probably the situation will be unchanged.
